Today Ilford is a busy, large town in north-east London just 9 miles from Charing Cross. However, back in the early 1800s there was racing at West Ilford, when a 3 race programme took place on Tuesday 30th August 1825. The principal race was the West Ilford Plate which was contested in heats over 2 miles. The first heat was won by Major, although it sustained injuries to its shoulder and was unable to compete in later heats. The meeting was not deemed to be particularly successful and no further meetings were recorded. |
